Management Competence Assessments

What we do

As part of the regulatory procedure for MAOS Approval we are mandated to carry out competence assessments of key management staff within the Applicant organisation.

The requirements of Defence Standard 05-130 stipulates that any approved MAOS organisation appoints an Accountable Manager along with nominated post holders for key management position in the organisation. These managers are accountable for certain financial and airworthiness responsibilities in accordance with their management position within the MAOS organisational structure.

How we operate

To hold any of these positions within a MAOS approved organisation the nominated managers are required to be assessed for their knowledge and understanding of the applicable sections of the Defence Standards, the organisations Exposition, associated company procedures and more importantly demonstrate to the MAA designated representative that they understand their responsibilities with respect to safety considerations and airworthiness risks associated with the organisation's Approval.

The process

The nominated post holders are required to complete a MAA Form 4 application, detailing their experience and qualification relevant to the position applied for. This form is then submitted to ACL to be assessed during the approval process.

The assessment is normally conducted during an official interview between the MAA representative (ACL) and the nominated manager. We attempt to keep the interview as informal as possible and will provide limited mentoring where necessary. If the candidate is considered acceptable to hold the Form 4 position ACL will formally inform the MAA by letter. The MAA will then sign the MAA Form 4 to confirm their formal acceptance.

If a candidate does not demonstrate an adequate level of knowledge or understanding there may be the need for further training or advice from outside providers.
